A Fun-filled Summer!

Wow!  We have had such a wonderful time during Sunflower Station Summer Camp!

*We began with a Cooking Theme and discovered we definitely have some chefs in the making!  The children practiced measuring, following steps in a recipe, and learned some basic cooking skills as they prepared pizza and cookies.
Getting ready to make pizza!
*Camping is always fun but since the summer is so hot, we brought the camping experience to the air conditioning!  We pretended to sit around a campfire, go fishing, and learned about making shadows with a flashlight.
*To celebrate the 4th of July, we talked about our great country and made fireworks.  The Pre-Kindergartners had a parade through the school!
*Arrrrrgh!! A pirates life was next!  The children went on a treasure hunt, dug for treasures in the sand, and experimented with things that sink and those that float.
*Ice Cream, Ice Cream, We all scream for Ice Cream!   Our Pre-kindergarten class did a science activity to see how long it would take a scoop of ice cream to melt outside in the summer heat.  After that hard work, of course it's time for an Ice Cream cone!
*During the summer, we all dream about being at the beach so we had to have a Luau!  Sunflower kids made their own volcanoes and even got to watch them erupt!
Erupting Volcanoes
*The hot temperatures outside and very little rain got us learning about Fire Safety. The Sherriff's Department brought their dog and told us about how important he is in emergencies.  American Red Cross Clowns taught us about crawling on the ground under the smoke and Stop, Drop, and Roll.  We even had some firefighters and Sparky come visit us.  The children loved exploring the Fire truck!

What cute firefighters!
*The best way to escape the heat is to play in the water and that's exactly what we did for Wacky Water Week!  We played with ice and watched it melt into water and discovered that some items absorb water and others do not.
Playing in the neat rocket sprinkler!
Now, it's back to school time!  There's no telling how much fun this new school year will bring!
