Earth Day

Since Earth Day was on Tuesday of this week, we took the time to learn about Earth and how we can take care of our planet.   The children talked about the importance of not littering, picking up trash, and recycling.

One class made Little Collection Bags to use to pick up trash!

The children brought in items from home and decided which bin to place them in- plastic, tin, or paper.

They then used some of the items collected to make some fun art!  Talk about reusing! 

We also learned about pollution and why we need to keep our water clean.  The Pre-K class did a fun science activity where they tried to clean up the dirty water!

 

By the end of the week, the children knew many ways that they could help the Earth.  They then did an activity where they picked one way that they were going to try to protect where we live!

 

We can't forget our letter of the week- "j"!  The children made "j is for jellyfish"!  Let's hope our ocean stays clean so that we can still have fun learning about ocean life!

Happy Easter!

He is Risen and we have so much to celebrate!  This week, we talked about bunny rabbits, lambs, eggs and most importantly, why Easter is so important.  There were precious bunny and lamb crafts throughout the school.

 

We had an EGGcellent time making all kinds of different eggs, including dying and peeling our own eggs!

 

Who doesn't love Jelly Beans, especially at this time of the year!  The children had fun with sorting jelly beans, making patterns, and even doing a little estimation! 

 Of course, we can't talk about Easter without learning about the cross!  All of the classrooms made beautiful crosses!

 We finished up the week with an Egg Hunt on Friday out on our playground!  The children had so much fun and were so excited to get to hunt for eggs together!

Plants and Flowers

Now that Spring is here, it's time to start planting some beautiful plants and flowers!  But first, it's important for us to learn how a flower grows, what it needs to live, and it's parts.  Several of the classes did a neat art activity that also helped them in identifying the parts of the flower.

We also used our creativity to make cute flowers from noodles!

  

For a math activity, the children counted out and glued a certain number of petals onto each flower. 

 

 Even our cooking project was all about flowers!  The children arranged slices of fruit to look like a beautiful (and yummy!) flower.

 

At the end of the week, it was time to put all of our new knowledge to the test!  The 3's and Pre-K class helped Mrs. Christina plant flowers in our front flower bed.  They had so much fun and each got to help in some way.  Let's just hope Mrs. Christina can keep the plants alive!  :) 

Bugs and Insects!

We've all gone buggy this week!  The children are having so much fun with all kinds of bugs and even enjoying going on Bug Hunts on the playground!  Ladybugs have given us the opportunity for some neat math activities by putting certain number of spots on the ladybugs.  The children also talked about how many legs spiders and insects have. 

For Language Arts, several classrooms practiced spelling their names by making a caterpillar with the letters in their name.  Our letter of the week is "g" so we did "g is for goose".  One classroom got really creative and made "g is for grasshopper" to stick with our theme! 

 

We also made bugs from fingerprints, created bugs on clips, and made ladybugs with crackers, strawberries, and raisins for our cooking project!

 

It's fun to see all the bugs coming out in the Spring but I'm sure not ready to see mosquitoes!! EEEKKK!

Animals in Spring

We are loving Spring already but we love the animals we see in Spring too!  The animals are finally coming out of hibernation and the birds are chirping in the air!  The children did several activities this week with birds including making bird nests and bird feeders.

We can't forget about the other cute animals that come out to play in the Spring!  The 2 Year Old's made a graph to show their favorite Spring animals.

How cute are these?!  A sheep and chick made from a toilet paper roll! 

There's a school of fish in our hallway as we did "f is for fish" this week!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  We are green from head to toe this week!  The children are having fun with all things green, rainbows, and four leaf clovers!  Of course, we did some really cute art projects!

We also did some activities that helped our children work on some skill sets all while having fun!  The 2 year olds practiced lacing a shamrock and the Older 1's painted pasta green and then made necklaces.  Both of these activities helped the children to practice their fine motor skills and they really enjoyed it!

Some classrooms even learned about symmetry while making rainbows.  They painted certain colors on the lines drawn on the paper and then folded the paper over to complete the rainbow on the other side.  They turned out so cute and were a great learning activity for the children!

Our Pre-K class sorted, counted, and made a chart with Lucky Charms!  What a fun activity to do to work on some math skills! 

The week isn't complete without focusing on our letter of the week!  I love this "e is for egg" craft!

Spring

Spring has Sprung and we so hope it brings nice weather!  We are all so tired of this cold weather and are ready to get out on the playground!  The children learned about how the weather would be changing by the temperature warming up and seeing more rain.  One classroom did a neat art project where they made it look like it was raining!

We talked a lot this week about rain, rainbows, and wind.  For a math activity, the children did a matching game where they paired raindrops based on the number of dots on one drop and the actual number on another drop.  To observe wind, they made kites to take outside to play with!

With warmer weather, Spring also brings beautiful flowers!  Several classrooms did some flower activities as well this week.

 The 3 year olds and Pre-K class planted Sunflowers this week!  We are going to let them grow on our playground and then plant them in our front flower bed of the school.  Our little sunflowers will be so cute in front of Sunflower Station Preschool!  :)

Our letter of the week is "d" so we of course made "d is for dinosaur"!
