My Body

After getting to know all about ourselves and our classmates, we took the time to learn about our own bodies.  We traced our bodies and then colored them beautifully.  We had so much fun as we talked about the outline of our body and all our different parts!
So silly!
Working hard!
We even counted our body parts!  The 2 year olds turned art work into math as they numbered their fingers on a painted hand print.

Our cooking activity focused on our color of the week- RED!  The children made Strawberry Jam to spread on bread for snack time.  It was delicious!

She was telling us all about what she was making- maybe a future Paula Dean?!
Ready to try out their jam!
For the letter C, children made Caterpillars and Cool Cats!  We have such creative children!

All About Me!

This week we learned all about each other!  We have several new friends in our classrooms so it was fun to get to know one another.  The children made "All About Me" books to take home and share with their parents.

They also looked at their fingerprints with magnifying glasses to see how none of them are exactly alike!
Fingerpainting fun!

The letter "B" brought lots of fun activities!  The children did a "B is for Bee" craft and our 3 year olds also made "Beautiful Butterflies"!

For the cooking activity, we made Banana Bread. The children really enjoyed such a delicious snack!

Back to School

It's hard to believe that it's already time to be "Back to School"!  A new school year brought some new faces to Sunflower Station Preschool.  Ms. Shalonda is our new 2's teacher.  She has been in childcare for over 4 years.  Ms. Shalonda is Ms. Temeka's (1's teacher) sister so she is already familiar with our school.  Mrs. Casey is now our 3's teacher in the mornings.  She is a certified teacher and taught at Blossomwood Elementary.  Mrs. Danielle will be starting this week in our Pre-Kindergarten room.  She is also a certified teacher who taught at Blossomwood Elementary.  We are so excited to have these new ladies as a part of our faculty!
Last week, the children talked about why we go to school and how important it is to be a good student.  We kicked off our "Letter of the Week" by reading "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom".  We started with the letter "A" as the children practiced writing and sounding out the letter, listed words that start with "A", and did a cute craft- "A is for Alligator".
A is for Alligator!!

For snack, the children made a "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" snack to enjoy!

We mixed up our very own green playdough to better learn about the color green.   Some classes made patterns with triangles and others turned a triangle into a little person!  What a great first week back!

A Fun-filled Summer!

Wow!  We have had such a wonderful time during Sunflower Station Summer Camp!

*We began with a Cooking Theme and discovered we definitely have some chefs in the making!  The children practiced measuring, following steps in a recipe, and learned some basic cooking skills as they prepared pizza and cookies.
Getting ready to make pizza!
*Camping is always fun but since the summer is so hot, we brought the camping experience to the air conditioning!  We pretended to sit around a campfire, go fishing, and learned about making shadows with a flashlight.
*To celebrate the 4th of July, we talked about our great country and made fireworks.  The Pre-Kindergartners had a parade through the school!
*Arrrrrgh!! A pirates life was next!  The children went on a treasure hunt, dug for treasures in the sand, and experimented with things that sink and those that float.
*Ice Cream, Ice Cream, We all scream for Ice Cream!   Our Pre-kindergarten class did a science activity to see how long it would take a scoop of ice cream to melt outside in the summer heat.  After that hard work, of course it's time for an Ice Cream cone!
*During the summer, we all dream about being at the beach so we had to have a Luau!  Sunflower kids made their own volcanoes and even got to watch them erupt!
Erupting Volcanoes
*The hot temperatures outside and very little rain got us learning about Fire Safety. The Sherriff's Department brought their dog and told us about how important he is in emergencies.  American Red Cross Clowns taught us about crawling on the ground under the smoke and Stop, Drop, and Roll.  We even had some firefighters and Sparky come visit us.  The children loved exploring the Fire truck!

What cute firefighters!
*The best way to escape the heat is to play in the water and that's exactly what we did for Wacky Water Week!  We played with ice and watched it melt into water and discovered that some items absorb water and others do not.
Playing in the neat rocket sprinkler!
Now, it's back to school time!  There's no telling how much fun this new school year will bring!
