Groundhog's Day and Black History Month Kick Off!

February is such a busy month and we have so much to squeeze in!  Several weeks during this month, we will be talking about two maybe even three topics per week so hang in there with us!
We started out this week talking about Groundhog's Day since it was this last Sunday.  We are SO sad that the Groundhog saw his shadow because you know what that means- 6 more weeks of winter.  YUK!
The Older 1's made Groundhog Cupcakes!
They went on a hunt around the school for Groundhogs!
This class made Groundhog Puppets that would pop up out of their "hole"!
The rest of the week was spent kicking off Black History Month by talking about important African Americans and their neat inventions and contributions.  Garrett Morgan invented the Traffic Light to help keep us all safe while driving!  Some classrooms did an art project and then our cooking project for the week involved making our own traffic lights!
The children also made Freedom Quilts and learned about Rosa Parks, the Underground Railroad, and George Washington Carver's work with peanuts.
We are looking forward to learning much more about these significant African Americans over the next several weeks!
