Under the Sea

Clams, Sea turtles, octopus, and seahorses, OH MY!!! The kiddos had so much fun going "Under the Sea"! The 3`s learned several shark facts like: Sharks don't like the taste of people, skunks,or weasels, and there is proof sharks existed before dinosaurs!!
The twos worked really hard on their special oyster project. They talked about how every shell is different.
"O is for Octopus" that we find in the sea!

Of course we couldn't go "under the sea" without getting our "Beach in a cup". Our kiddos enjoyed eating graham crackers, and jello while telling our teachers things they liked to do at the beach.
It's be a fun week, exploring the Ocean!

We're getting BUGGY!!!  Our Pre-K class was super brave and had some fun with worms!

The 3 year old classroom learned about the body parts of a bug and talked about the characteristics of an insect.  They also learned some fun facts about fireflies!
For our cooking project, we made Dirt cups with worms (edible ones, no worries!).

Animals in Spring

Spring time already?! What a perfect time to talk about Animals in Spring!! All of the kids learned that all those animals that were sleeping for the winter are waking up and ready to eat. The Pre-K class even saw a real caterpillar on the fence. This week even our Waddlers and Toddlers got into the Spring mood and made bird feeders using pine cones.

Black History

To kick off Black History month, we spent this week talking about different African Americans and their contributions.  The children learned about some who made a difference by inventing something to make our world a better place while others where strong and powerful leaders. We had fun learning about George Washington Carver and all the ways to use a peanut! Thank goodness Garrett Morgan invented the traffic light or we would have a mess out on the roads.  Not only did the children make traffic lights as an art project, we also made them for our cooking project!  They also had fun talking about Jackie Robinson and all that he did for one of America's favorite sports- baseball!

We also focused on what a difference many African Americans did within our communities to make our world a wonderful place to live together!
For the number of the week, the 3 year olds made sunflowers using 7 petals!
This week, we had to play a little catch up and do two letter for the week. The children made "Z is for Zebra" and "a is for Apple".
Pre-K did some Marble Painting to make the stripes for their Zebras!

Safety First

This week, we are focusing on how to stay safe in all situations.  I love this activity that the 3 year olds did where each child came up with a key to being safe so that they could make Safety Keys!

The 2 year old class learned a song about the correct way to cross a street.  We even learned about street signs by sorting the signs by shape and color, as well as following the rules of the road in our cars station.  We didn't leave out one of the most important signs we see on the streets- the traffic light!

All of our classrooms talked about calling 911 in case of an emergency and several even practiced calling in our home living station.  Of course, we can't talk about 911 without mentioning police officers and firefighters! Our older children worked on learning their phone numbers and addresses. To practice their phone numbers, the 3 year olds jumped on a giant number pad on the floor from number to number!
It's also extremely important for our little guys to know what items are safe for their bodies and what are not.  The children were introduced to Mr. Yuk who tells us what is dangerous and what is not.  For a great visual, one classroom noticed how similar water and rubbing alcohol look, as well as Apple juice and pine-sol.  Of course, they were able to see that they look the same but that the rubbing alcohol and pine-sol could be extremely dangerous.

There was a lot to squeeze into this week but we can't ever forget our letter of the week! The children made "Y is for Yo-yo" and Yodeling Yak's Yummy Yogurt!

Animals in Winter

Now that it's winter, we are anxious to learn all about what animals do in winter!  There are so many interesting animals that we can observe during the really cold months.  The children enjoyed learning about all the animals, where they live, and what they do when it's so cold outside.  They also tried to match different animal prints to the animal they belong to.
Take a look at some of the adorable art projects we did!  Who doesn't love penguins?! We had penguin activities going on all over the building this week!
Of course, we can't talk about winter animals without discussing the bears that live in the cold temperatures and those that hibernate! The 3's not only talked about those animals that hibernate and adapt but also those that migrate!
Many of our classrooms took the actual measurements of different types of penguins to allow the children to see if they were taller or shorter than a penguin. Such a great science and math activity!

The Pre-K class made signs about some of the different animals they learned about to show all the neat facts they know!  The 3 year old class does Yoga and Dance on Fridays but this Friday, they did "Artic Animal Yoga"- how fun!

For our cooking project, the children made Paw Print Cookies to represent what animals' prints look like in the snow.
For the letter of the week, some classrooms talked about W standing for weather, while others focused in on Winter specifically.
