We All Scream for Ice Cream!

Who doesn't love ice cream?!  We have found another way to beat the heat by enjoying some delicious ice cream!  The children did some cute art activities this week and even made a pretend ice cream sundae!

We also made "Ice Cream in a Bag".  The children had to shake it really hard to make the ice cream but they did a really good job!  It is such a neat activity to see a few ingredients mix together to become one of our favorite treats.
One of the classrooms finished the week up with an Ice Cream Sundae party!  After their hard work making pretend ice cream sundaes, it was time to enjoy the real thing!
This Sunday is National Ice Cream Day so be sure to enjoy some yourself!

It's Time for a Luau!

All this hot weather has us thinking about somewhere tropical!  Since we can't take a trip there together, we will have to bring it all to us!  We have spent the week getting ready for our Luau on Friday!  The children made their own hula skirts to dance in to the Hawaiian music.  We had so much fun learning about volcanoes and even watching our own version of a volcano erupt!

The 3 year olds tasted different tropical fruits!
It's finally Friday and we have had some fun!  We enjoyed pretending to have a Luau and some classes even had a Water Play Day!

Hopefully you are having a fun summer and finding ways to stay cool too!

3 Cheers for the Red, White, & Blue

Hip, Hip, Hooray!  We love the USA!  This was a short week but we sure did pack a lot of fun into it!  The children did so many fun art projects with flags and fireworks.

They also made musical instruments, streamers, and flags to use in our 4th of July Parade!  The children had so much fun marching up and down the hall to patriotic music on Wednesday!
For our cooking project, we made an All-American Treat- APPLE PIE!! Yum!  The children each made their own mini apple pie to enjoy for snack time.
We hope you have a very Happy 4th of July and enjoy time with your family and friends!

Stop, Drop, and Roll!

It's all about Fire Safety this week!  This is one of our favorite weeks at Sunflower Station Preschool!  The children learned who to call in case of an emergency, how to stop, drop and roll, and why it's important to have a meeting spot.

For art projects, they made their own firetrucks!  Our number of the week was 5 so one classroom did a cute activity with 5 Firemen!  And of course, you can't talk about fire safety without talking about Sparky!

We are so fortunate to have a Fire Chief as one of our dad's!  He made a special visit to our school and brought some other firefighters with him.  They told the children about fire safety and even showed the children what they look like once they have all of their safety gear on.

Then, we headed out to check out the Fire Truck!  The children got to explore on the inside and seat in the seats!  One of our little guys even got to "drive" the truck!
After that, they showed us how to use the hose and we were so impressed with how far it could spray!  The children loved it and Mrs. Christina even got to give it a try!  We hope we didn't get anyone next door wet!  :)
On Friday, some of the children dressed up in their Firefighter attire!  Doesn't he look ready to go?!

Aye, Aye Matey!

Arrrrgggg!!   We are having fun with pirates this week!  The children have practiced "walking the plank" and they've searched for gold throughout the school!  One of the classrooms even made their own gold!!
For a science activity, they talked about items that sink and those that float.  They even tested several items and the children really enjoyed watching to see what happen once they were placed in the water!  We also did some neat art projects this week too including making pirate costumes.

We have some kids in our school that sure do make cute pirates!

Wild Wild West

This week we are talking about the Wild, Wild West and Cowboys!  The children learned about things that you might see out in the West like horseshoes, horses, and cacti.  Our Math activities included Bandana symmetry and rope comparison, where they put lengths of rope in order from short to long.
Our letter of the week was "Q" so the children made "Q is for Queen".
We also made Trail Mix like the cowboys might enjoy in which we mixed together several delicious snacks!  Check out these cuties who dressed up like cowboys!  Yee Haw!!!

A Camping We Will Go!

We are headed to the woods for a camping adventure- at least we are going to pretend!  The children made binoculars to play with, built tents in their rooms, and even went fishing!
A camp out isn't right without marshmallows and chocolate!  We had to enjoy S'Mores for our sweet treat!  One classroom also made a special cookie using dough, chocolate chips, and marshmallows!  Needless to say, the school smelled delicious!
The children also enjoyed playing with flashlights and making shadows this week!  Whew, what a fun filled week!
