Since we have several children that have moved up to the next class and a few new children, we spent this week getting to each other! Our theme this week was "All About Me". The children had fun telling their new friends and teachers about themselves, from their favorite color to the things they like to eat! They even made posters to display in the classrooms!
As Pre-K learned about each other, they also talked about their houses. The children had fun drawing their houses and were proud to show them off!
While learning about one another, it's important to remember that we are all special and unique!

Back to School
It's hard to believe but we are "Back to School"! We had a wonderful Summer and are excited about a new school year! This week is all about learning about our classroom, our teachers, the class rules, and of course, all the fun we are going to have! We also talk about how proud we are to be a part of the Sunflower Station family! Several of our classrooms did activities to show that pride like making cute sunflowers using their hand prints.
Our classrooms also brainstormed on what their class rules should be and came up with a great list to follow!
We are starting back at the beginning of the alphabet with uppercase A. Some children made "A is for Alligator" while others made ants on the letter "A" or created their own Angry Birds!
We also had some fun making our color of the week- green! The children mixed yellow and blue paint for a fun and messy activity!
For our cooking project, the children made their own "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" snack to kick off starting at the beginning of the alphabet again!

Wacky Water Week
We are wrapping up our Summer Program with one of our favorite weeks- Wacky Water Week! After all, who doesn't love to play in the water! Of course, we had a lot of fun doing various water activities like seeing how sponges absorb water and how the water can be squeezed back out.
Painting with ice cubes was a fun and unique way to incorporate art into our week!
The children did a great job in brainstorming the many different ways that we use water each and every day.
Mixed in with all the fun, we also learned about the Water Cycle. Several classrooms did a neat experiment to demonstrate how the water cycle works. One classroom even made a large diagram to go on their wall to give another visual of the water cycle.
For some other science projects, the children got to watch as pencils were stuck through a ziploc bag of water and that no water leaked out! They also observed water absorb and transfer from one cup to another throughout the week.
Since it's the end of our Summer Program, we are also finishing up the alphabet as well! The children were very creative in making "Z is for Zebra".
All the talk about water and playing in it has us wishing we were at the beach! So, for our cooking project, we made "Beach in a Cup"! YUM!
To wrap up the week, we had Water Play Day on Friday! Always such a fun treat to get to have some fun in the water with our friends at school!

A Camping We Will Go!
We headed to the woods this week to go camping! The children did some cute art projects making their own campfires and lanterns.
We had a lot of fun pretending to be camping! The children "played in the pond" and even "jumped in"! They also sat around the campfire in several rooms!
For a Math activity, the 3 year olds measured different objects in the classroom with big and mini marshmallows!
Of course, we love a yummy snack around here! One classroom went fishing with their snack by using pretzels as the rod, peanut butter as the bait, and goldfish to catch! We also made our own version of S'Mores for our Cooking Project this week.
The letter of the week was "r" so several of our classrooms made "r is for rabbit"!
I'd say we have a bunch of Happy Campers at Sunflower Station Preschool!

What's Cooking?
"Hey good lookin', what you got cookin'?" Spaghetti and Pizza of course!!
Our kiddos had lots of fun with some sensory stations involving cooking!
The 2 year old class had lots of funny faces and laughs as they did a taste test with the 5 different types of taste!
The Pre-K class did an experiment to show why it's important to eat healthy foods so our stomach isn't filled with gas!
Our children have had so much fun watching our very own garden grow. During recess, they were checking the garden and harvesting sweet potatoes.
"Q" is for Queen but also allows for some fun painting with Q-tips!
