Leaders

In honor of Martin Luther King day this week's focus was leaders.  The kids learned about leaders in their personal lives as well as national and world leaders.  They learned the character traits that leaders possess and how they can be leaders in their homes, classrooms, etc.  All classes had fun playing Follow the Leader and reading books about famous leaders from United States history.

The letter of the week was W so the kids made waffles in a waffle iron for snack.  Yum!

The Pre-K class pours batter into the waffle iron and then enjoys their waffles for afternoon snack.

Don't forget that Sunflower Station will be closed on Monday, January 21, for the Martin Luther King holiday.

Animals in Winter

Your preschooler(s) spent this week learning all about animals that thrive during winter weather conditions.  They sang about winter animals to familiar tunes like Frere Jacques and reviewed the concept of hibernation.  Art projects include penguin puppets, a vase of flowers in the shape of the letter V, and icy penguins.  The kids made Snowball treats for their special cooking project snack.  The science project for the week was really fun for the kids as they discovered what blubber is and how it feels.  We hope you had a great week!

Sports and Fitness

What an exciting short week we had!  The kids learned what it means to be physically fit and about a variety of sports.  They had the opportunity to bring in a sports ball of any type to play with on the playground, played with the parachute and learned dance routines. The Threes and Pre-K classes even exercised along with a few Zumba for Kids videos.  How fun!  Many of our classes made unicorns in the shape of the letter of the week, U.

Happy New Year!

Welcome back!  We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and were able to relax with your family.  Although this is a short week, the kids didn't miss a beat.  They made tigers in the shape of the letter of the week, T, and noise-makers to use while ringing in the new year.  The concepts of old versus new were introduced and the kids practiced counting backwards from ten to zero.  We hope you all have a happy New Year!  Be safe and we will see you all next week.
